Microneedling is a method that is use to treat different skin conditions. The technique involves using multiple tiny, sterile needles to puncture the skin and cause physical trauma.

This trauma prompts the derma, a deeper layer of skin, to rebuild. Microneedling may help address many skin-related complaints, including:

skin pigmentation issues

stretch marks

loose skin, such as after weight loss or liposuction

It may also help rejuvenate the skin.

Microneedling increases the production of collagen and other healing factors by causing trauma to the skin.

Collagen is an essential protein that helps keep the skin looking youthful, with a firm, smooth, and stretchy texture.

Aging causes the decline of collagen in the skin, contributing to wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Skin can also lose collagen due to injuries, such as acne scarring, stretch marks, or other scars.

Hand Lotion Is Not Enough!? How to Keep Your Hands Soft and Moisturized

April 15, 2020

There might be other reasons why your hands are so dry.

Here are some tips to keep your hands moisturized all the time.

Usual soap has so much chemicals, and make your hands dry after washing. To avoid this problem, you want to go for natural soap with a vegetable glycerin base. Or liquid castile soap works well, too.

Before buying soap, check the ingredients.

Instead of using hand lotion or cream, try actual oils. The oils recommended are olive, jojoba, coconut, grape seed, and sweet almond.

Preventing the dryness is important. When you do dishes, or cleaning kitchen and bathroom, don’t forget to wear gloves. Protect your hands from damages.

Like you exfoliate your face, exfoliate your hands, too. Sugar and olive oil will be a perfect scrub for hands .Don’t forget to moisturize after exfoliating.

BIO LED Light Therapy Treatment

June 15, 2019

LED light therapy is a painless, relaxing, non-invasive skin-care treatment that has multiple benefits—particularly stimulating collagen and treating mild to moderate acne.

LED treatments work by using an array of bright light-emitting diodes (originally developed by NASA!) that send low-level light energy into the deeper layers of the skin. Red light LED stimulates cellular activity, including the fibroblasts that produce collagen, which gives young skin its plump look. That helps minimize fine lines and wrinkles, treat sun-damage and stretch marks, and reduce redness after more aggressive IPL or laser treatments. The results won’t be as dramatic as plastic surgery, IPL, or laser, but it’s a gentler, more natural, less expensive way to go.

Blue light LED works by killing Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria that lives below the surface of the skin and is responsible for acne.

Both are highly effective when part of a series—usually six treatments one to two weeks apart, followed by a maintenance treatment every month or two. LED treatments last about ten to twenty minutes, and can be a stand-alone treatment or part of a facial. They are given by an esthetician and usually cost somewhere between $75 to $125 a treatment as a standalone, more if part of a larger treatment such as a hydrafacial.

LED light therapy treatments are sometimes also called simply LED, or by the name of the manufacturer, such as Dermawave or Revitalight. Professional LED treatments are given at select day spas, usually those with a serious focus on skin care, or from estheticians with their own skin care studios. LED light therapy treatments are also being found more frequently now at resort spas, which are emphasizing more results-oriented skin care treatments.

Recommended Protocol

The recommended professional LED protocol is six treatments a week or two apart, followed by a maintenance treatment every month or two. LED treatments are painless and relaxing, and in winter have a side benefit of counteracting seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

Your eyes can't be hurt by LED light so they don't have to be covered. LED light therapy treatments are a good choice for people who want to boost collagen or treat mild to moderate acne. Unlike IPL or laser treatments, LED treatments carry no risk of burning. An IPL treatment delivers a bright blast of light at very high energy levels through a hand-held device and can be uncomfortable, even painful. LED treatments are actually very soothing.

Lymphatic Drainage Facial Massage

April 2, 2019

Stimulating your facial lymph nodes gives your body’s natural detox process a boost, reducing bloating and promoting a sense of wellbeing.

How does lymphatic drainage work?

A lymphatic drainage facial is a soothing and relaxing massage using gentle but effective brushing motions to reduce swelling in the eye and neck area, as well as the rest of the face. The lymphatic system consists of a large network of lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes throughout the body. Intrinsically linked to your immune system, the lymphatic network aids in the removal of waste products from body tissue. The lymphatic system functions via and is dependent on the pressure of the blood system. Because of this, the efficacy of your lymph nodes in eliminating toxins is dependent on the efficacy of your circulatory system, which can mean a slower-than-desirable detoxification process. This is where physical manipulation of the lymph nodes comes in to help speed up the process. As a beneficial side effect, your immune system is also boosted. Before treatment, some patients may experience impaired lymph drainage, where, for example, flow is obstructed or simply insufficient. When flow is obstructed or too slow, lymphatic fluid (lymph) accumulates in the tissue resulting in swelling in the affected area, and this can irritate the skin. When fluid builds up like this it can cause discomfort, puffiness and a dull complexion.

When is lymph drainage most effective?

The stimulation of lymph node drainage is highly recommended for acne, Couperose and general congestion of the lymphatic system (telltale signs can be bags under the eyes and a range of skin irritations). With regular treatment, the symptoms of a congested lymphatic system can be dramatically reduced, improving the skin’s appearance.

A full lymph detox treatment consists of the following:

To begin with, you will undergo a deep skin cleanse. Dead skin cells in the upper layer of the skin are sloughed off using the diamond microdermabrasion technique. Then your skin will be steamed using a steamer and color light therapy is applied. This process opens up the pores so the skin can be optimally cleaned. At this point the actual lymphatic treatment can begin, where we stimulate the flushing out of the lymphatic system using a soft gripping technique, as well as applying pressure and strokes. At the same time Hyaluronic Acid is being massaged into the skin. The serum nourishes and moisturizes your skin while simultaneously soothing it. And finally you can lie back and relax while a special face mask does its work, calming and toning the skin. The process is rounded off with a final treatment tailored specifically for your needs. Please note that certain medical conditions are not compatible with lymphatic drainage facials.

What is a Fire and Ice Treatment?

January 15, 2019

The Fire and Ice Treatment is famous for its instant brightening, smoothing and tightening of the skin. It is also known as “The Red Carpet Treatment” in Hollywood, for obvious reasons! This intensive clinical treatment is designed to resurface the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, rejuvenate, nourish and hydrate.

The treatment begins with the “fire” which a combination of intensive resurfacing treatments: microdermabrasion followed by a peel.

After the “fire” mask has completed its job, the “ice” is applied. This is a rejuvenating mask designed to cool and soothe the skin.

The pampering part of the treatment is the oxygen infusion with active serums appropriately chosen for particular skin type and condition and the application of the Collagen mask to hydrate and firm.

As a result, the skin will feel tight and firm, and have a visible glow. The skin may have a mild redness following the treatment, but it is temporary. The Fire and Ice Treatment may be repeated at two-week intervals for a series of 6 treatment until the desired clinical effect is achieved.

Microdermabrasion and Peel Treatment is the Best Rejuvenating Treatment for 2019

January 14, 2019

Two treatments working in harmony for maximum results.

If you’re wondering whether to go with microdermabrasion or a chemical peel the answer may be both!

The analogy is like this: microdermabrasion is like mowing the lawn, while a chemical peel is like aerating the lawn.

You may get better results when you do both a microdermabrasion and chemical peel at the same time. And you get the best results when you get them done at MindBodyBeauty Aesthetics in Scarborough!

How does Microdermabrasion & Chemical Peels Work?

Microdermabrasion removes much of the top layer of skin in the epidermis, while a chemical peels drives antioxidants into the living part of the skin, the dermis. Basically, microdermabrasion is “mechanical” exfoliation and chemical peels are “chemical” exfoliation.

Chemical Peels are selected based on your skin type. There are a variety of chemical peels for acne, pigmentation and anti-aging. Whatever your skin’s needs, it starts with one microdermabrasion and chemical peel treatment to see positive changes in your skin.

Benefits of Professional Exfoliation

With microdermabrasion, only a small portion of the epidermis is removed, so there is little to no downtime. Your skin may appear pink for a few hours following treatment. With chemical peels, your skin may peel in the week following the treatment.

Professional exfoliation helps stimulate collagen and help the skin appear softer and smoother, even after one treatment at MindBodyBeauty Aesthetics. Your makeup will apply smoother and the products you use at home are more effective because they penetrate the living part of the skin instead of sitting on top of dead skin.

What Should be Expected After a Facial Treatment

December 3, 2018

Since you’ve invested in a quality medically rejuvenating facial and thoroughly enjoyed yourself, you’ll probably want it to last as long as possible.

Below are some tips that can help you accomplish that, both immediately afterwards and in the days that follow:

Don’t wash your face that night. Your skin needs a chance to relax. Your facial will have left it quite clean, so there’s no need to wash your face before bedtime.

-Don’t put makeup on for a while. Avoid makeup, at least for the first day. You can use it after that, but why not take this as an opportunity to flaunt your new, glowing skin.

-Avoid exfoliating for a few days. This is especially true if your facial included deep exfoliation.

-Know that redness is normal. Be prepared for some redness. This is normal, but do speak to your skin care professional if it seems excessive or lasts several days.

-Drink plenty of water. This will help keep your skin refreshed and hydrated.

-Stay out of the sun, if you can. The new skin cells exposed by your facial are sensitive. Give them a few days out of the sun and, if you have to go out, use a high SPF sunscreen.

-Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Along with drinking water, using a gentle facial moisturizer can help lock hydration in and keep your skin feeling beautiful.

-Keep up a healthy skin care routine. Just as you’d take extra special care of your teeth after a dental cleaning, take extra special care with your skin after a facial. A good routine can help the effects of a facial last longer.

Why is Facial Massage a great treatment?

November 13, 2018

Known for its effectiveness as part of a Beauty Treatment, facial massage also has an abundance of other health benefits.

1. Stress relief and mood booster

Body massages are widely known for their stress reducing capabilities, but a rub down on your face is also just as effective. Stress and anxiety will often cause our facial muscles to tense and over time this will not only have a detrimental effect on our mood and appearance but can cause facial aches and pains. The face is filled with different pressure points and just by stimulating these through soft strokes, tension can be relieved and your mood instantly lifted.

2. Natural facelift

As well as being a natural way to relieve stress, facial massages are also a natural beauty treatment. Facial massage stimulates the production of collagen and blood in the skin. Therefore regular sessions will work to tighten and lift your facial muscles, helping to prevent sagging and giving you a more youthful glow. A wonderful holistic alternative to invasive cosmetic treatments!

3. Increases circulation

The application of too many cosmetics, smoking, air travel and lack of sleep can all affect the circulation in our faces causing them to become puffy and look pale. Facial massage is a great way to increase blood flow and help eliminate that puffiness. By stimulating the lymphatic system that lies just underneath the skin, excess fluid can be worked out and increase the flow of oxygenated blood and nutrients.

4. Relieves inflamed skin conditions

Facial massage can greatly benefit inflamed skin conditions such as acne and rosacea. Light manipulation on the skin increases blood flow and oxygen which is needed for healing, plus it helps to expel toxins that are often responsible for breakouts. Sessions should be short however – no more than 10 minutes – as with conditions such as acne, there is always a risk of cross-contamination and overstimulation.

5. Relieves headaches

Tension headaches, migraines and cluster headaches can all be relieved through facial massage therapy. By stimulating pressure points on the face, tension and stress can be worked out helping to ease symptoms. Taking time out to have a massage will also decrease the frequency of headaches as stress is often a contributing factor.

6. Curb sinus congestion

Facial massage can do wonders for relieving sinus and nasal congestion, often caused by allergies. Gentle pressure and warmth from hands can help to break up the buildup of mucus in the sinus cavities and stimulate our natural drainage system allowing for better sinus function.

7. Removes impurities and toxins

Regular facial massages can help remove toxins not just from the face but from the body too. Lymph nodes are located all over the face, particularly along the edge of the chin and jawline. Stimulating these areas through soft strokes will kick start the lymphatic system – which is essential for overall health – and move impurities and toxins into the blood quicker so they can be eliminated from the body.

8. Prevents wrinkles

Wrinkles are unavoidable as we get older but frequent tension and involuntary tightening in the face caused by daily stress can advance their development. Facial massages will help relax these tight and drawn muscles, minimizing the lines they form and helping you to remain looking youthful for longer.

Reasons why Facials are more Relaxing than Massage

November 8, 2018

Beauty is skin deep, it shows in a person’s skin, how they feel within, especially when stressed.

You can’t hide how you feel, it shows in your face. So why wouldn’t you want to feel good, happy, relaxed and have it reflect in your face? Well, there is solution for you and it’s as simple as booking yourself into a tranquil place for a facial regularly. You will be amazed how different you will feel and look.

1. Why facials are more relaxing than a massage

Facials can be more relaxing than a massage, they are also about creating ‘inner peace’ which reflects a serene appearance on your face immediately after a facial. As opposed to a massage where having your head facing down causes your sinuses to block and your face to be squashed into a head rest while having the back of your body massaged. Yet people tend to shy away from facials in preference for a massage when wanting to destress and relax.

I believe it’s a lack of education or information from the beauty industry to the main stream media about informing people of the advantages of a facial rather than a massage when you need to relax. Guests go into a deep relaxation or sleep during facials and the type of rest they gain during the facial time can transform them from stressed to rest in less than an hour.

Packages include a facial as they are the main component for relaxing the mind, scalp, facial muscles and breathe. There are still some people who are scared of having facials as they think it will purge the skin and cause breakouts but facials are not as they used to be.

2. Facials don’t cause breakouts

Decades ago, facials were all about extractions, steaming and purging skin, leaving skin looking blotchy and bruised after a facial. Facial products were not as refined as they are today and technology in making skin care product was not as high tech as it is today.

Facial products, training and techniques used today have changed facials, products and procedures compared to what was used years ago and now are all about desensitizing, calming, hydrating, balancing and nourishing the skin.

While the skincare products used today are all about achieving results in the form of calming skin, dissolving away surface dead skin and adding hydration to attain beautiful skin. While all the scientific products, organic ingredients and precious oils transform your skin aromatherapy and skilled hands help your relaxation.

A well educated and knowledgeable Therapist plays a great part in the results you will see in your skin. While you might expect this to be a therapist that is industry experienced, therapists new to working in the industry are trained well at college and have know the latest techniques and information.

The magic that skin Therapists work with their soothing hands while using advanced skincare products and specialized aroma oils to deliver effective anti-ageing treatments are all combined in one facial to offer immediate stress relief. Skin Therapists can feel you slipping into deep relaxation, while your breathing slows and you drift to inner peace, releasing facial muscle tension as well as your mind and stress.

3. How do facials work?

During a facial Therapists use a lighter, softer touch in repetitive rhythmical patterns over the peripheral nerve endings on and around the face and scalp.

The peripheral nerves are important structures in the body that carry information from the brain and spinal cord out to the muscles to initiate movements and then to also carry sensory information back from the extremities and other tissues to the spinal cord. This brain and sensory touch exchange from soft repetitive movements simply send a message of calm to your mind and it shows in your face.

4. Facials can make you look younger, relaxed and in love

You know how people have a different look about them when they are in love, pregnant or just back from a holiday? When those relaxed, happy vibes are just too good to hide. Well, facials can give you that look too. You will certainly be in love with a facial once you have a facial with good skin care, a skilful facialist and a caring massage. If you can’t find time for a holiday, go have a facial and see how good you look and feel. Having a facial when you’re expecting a baby can help control hormonal skin, give you some comfortable relaxation time and enhance your pregnancy glow.

5. Any time is a great time to have facials or skin treatments

Cooler months are particularly good time for a facial. Winter is also a season to snuggle up where it’s cosy and warm on a soft treatment bed relaxing while you enjoy a rejuvenating treatment that leaves you looking and feeling de-stressed.

Try a facial next time you need some inner peace.

Why Oxygen Facial is a Great Treatment  before Special Occassion.

November 7, 2018

No, it’s not just blowing air on your face with a fan. Oxygen facials have come a long way since inception. While your skin is treated with oxygen (but FYI, only your lungs can absorb it), these facials have other benefits for your complexion.

They also infuse the skin with 'actives' such as hyaluronic acid, botanical extracts, antioxidants, peptides and/or vitamins, In fact, the stream of pressurized oxygen is really just a delivery system for these actives.

It should be done three to five days before the ceremony. An oxygen facial is a great way to prepare for a wedding, as delivering these actives into the inner layers of the skin will leave it maximally soothed and moisturized. These treatments are often around the $200-$300 range.

Reasons why you should be getting a Facial Treatment.

October 29, 2018

Facials are so much more than an hour of indulgence. Facials have great benefits to the health, wellness, and appearance of your skin with short and long term impact. When you think about it, we all make regular visits to dentists, doctors, hair salons, and more. Your skin needs regular care, too. Consider scheduling routine facials to focus on your skin health.

Tis’ the Season - Our skin’s condition is similar to nature; it changes based on the weather temperatures, humidity level, climate we live in, or visit often, and the amount of sun exposure. Regular facials help you keep up with these changes providing extra protection, hydration, exfoliation or whatever your skin might need.

Getting to Know Your Skin - When you get a facial, your esthetician gets up close and personal with your skin, which I promise is not a bad thing! And then customize the products to your skin's unique needs. Clients are educated about products and routines to use at home to keep your skin in peak condition.

Professional, Expert Care - Estheticians are trained to look for and deal with complex skin issues. Even the best goops, creams and lotions you have hanging out at home cannot compare to the keen eye of a professional. As an Esthetician I have the knowledge of services, techniques, and products to help with recurring skin conditions.

Booking regular facials allows you to take advantage of this expertise.

Deep Cleaning - Even those of us with established at-home routines admit that some days we are just plain lazy about it. We could all afford a longer, more effective cleansing of our skin. A regular facial helps cover up our crimes of neglect and laziness. It gets past the surface stuff, refines pores and leaves your complexion looking and feeling rejuvenated. It's kind of like supplementing brushing and flossing with visits to the dentist.

Anti-Aging Bonus - We’re getting older each and every day and because we only have one face, we really need to take care of it. By getting regular facials, we promote cell turnover, boost collagen production and maintain healthy skin balance, all of which are great anti-aging remedies. Simply, facials can help slow the clock.

Prevention: Already happy with your skin? Great! Let's keep it that way! Don't wait for problems to appear before scheduling a facial. Consistent facials help prevent the signs of aging, break outs, and other issues that crop up – eventually. Just like exercising helps maintain your body's fitness level, regular facials help maintain your skin's healthy, youthful appearance.

Melt Stress - Life can busy. Most of us don’t take nearly enough time out for ourselves. We need to do things that will help melt away stress and help us regain balance. Spending an hour in a peaceful, relaxing environment can help restore balance to your mind, as well as your skin. A Scalp, Facial Massage and Acupressure are added to your facial to help alleviate the tension.

What can Chemical Peel do for my Skin?

October 27, 2018

A chemical peel enhances and smoothes the texture of the skin. It is an effective treatment for facial blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven skin pigmentation. It exfoliate the outer layers of dead skin, revealing a new skin layer with improved tone, texture, and color.

In addition to full facial rejuvenation, certain types of skin peels can also be used for spot treatments and as a way to remove stretch marks or rejuvenate skin elsewhere on the body. The chemical peel is one of the oldest cosmetic procedures in the world, and was performed in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome to help people achieve smoother, more beautiful skin. Today, chemical facial peels are popular because they offer nearly immediate results.

In general, patients with fair skin and light hair are the best chemical peel candidates. However, patients with other skin pigmentation and hair color can achieve good results as well. Ideal candidates for the chemical peel procedure are individuals who are unhappy with the appearance of their skin, have realistic expectations of their procedure, and do not smoke.

How often should you get a Facial Treatment?

October 23, 2018

It is recommend that people have a professional facial about every 3-4 weeks. That's how long it takes your skin to move through the full life cycle of skin cell growth and exfoliation.

A facial helps that process along by removing the dead/dry skin on the surface and leaving room for fresh new skin.

The treatment will keep your skin clean, clear, toned and Beautiful.

Once the skin is clean and clear you can then switch back to once per month to maintain Healthy and Glowing Skin.

Benefits of Microdermabrasion

October 1, 2018

Convenience is one of the significant microdermabrasion benefits that make this procedure so popular. Microdermabrasion treatments are often referred to as the “lunchtime facial" because they can be completed in as little as thirty minutes.

Because the microdermabrasion procedure is non-surgical and virtually painless, it is a safe and highly effective way to restore a clear, youthful glow to the skin.

Microdermabrasion sloughs off the dead and dull surface layers of the skin, stimulating an increase in collagen production and rejuvenation. Many patients see dramatic improvements in the tone, texture, and color of treated areas after just one treatment.

Microdermabrasion can also improve:

  • Oily or dull skin
  • Enlarged pores
  • Clogged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Mild acne scars
